University of Bristol Korfball

Korfball is a fast paced, mixed gender sport which involves a team of eight players- four men and four women- attempting to shoot into a 3.5 metre korf post against their defending opponents. Here at the University of Bristol we have an exciting year ahead! With weekly games in the local league, BUCS tournaments across the UK, and a korfball tour to Eindhoven in 2016, there are plenty of opportunities to play korfball competitively. And for those of you who are looking for something more casual, the club hosts general training sessions every Sunday, with plenty of socials throughout the year. All abilities are welcome!

** SECOND TEAM**

The last match of the season for seconds was against Exeter 2. Everyone played extremely well with some great defence and good play all round despite several injured players. The first half ended with Bristol being 6-0 down, but we didn’t let that stop us from fighting back. Bristol won the second half 4-3 due to strong defence all round and many shots going up. This meant that we still lost the game but didn’t give up and played extremely well, giving Exeter a tough game. This game meant that university of Bristol 2 came 6th place in SWKA 2. Well done for Lizzie and Lewis for their MVP titles. Thanks to all for a great season of Korf!!!

Last weekend saw second team face the National Trophy BUCS competition. After a rocky start to the morning from a fight with an icy road our first match was against Liverpool 1. We managed to win 5-4 thanks to a last minute goal from Jamie Luxford. The next match was Nottingham 2s, with a minor injury causing a trip to A&E for Nuck halfway through the game, we unfortunately lost 4-1 but great defence managed to prevent further goals. Manchester 1 was our last game and we saw another loss due to the ball just not wanting to go in the korf. Our last match on Saturday was against reading 1, with a tired and disappointed team to not qualify top 8, we lost again. The snow and icy conditions get worse resulting in a 2 mile walk with Chinese takeaway and the inability to get out of the road to drive to the venue for the second day of matches. This resulted in University of Bristol 2 coming 16th place (out of 16). Thanks to all who came as well as Liz for her cooking and hospitality, great fun was had despite the many obstacles that were thrown at us.

SOUTHERN QUALIFIERS ⭐️

Last weekend saw our smashing 3rds journey to Crawley for Nationals. A tough group saw our 3rds start the day with a smashing victory. A tricky but close match came next against the very good Birmingham 3s side in which we lost. However this didn’t stop them with a massive 6-0 win against Kent next. With great goals coming from many players of 3rds. Qualifying for the quarterfinals was all to play for in the last match of the group stages, but with some crazy half way line shots coming from DMU in the last minutes, we came to an unfortunate 2-1 loss which meant based on head-to-head results meant we missed out on a quarterfinal space. However we managed to place a fantastic 9th place overall! Special shoutout to coach Gourlay and Hortense’s massive box of pancakes x

**SECOND TEAM MATCH**

Second team was looking especially fit this weekend, with special sexy appearances from Chris Stockey, Rory Yeadon and Poppy Smith. A big shout out to Jodie Servante and Brendan Harris who have joined this term as the team just gets spicier and spicier. We lost the game 15-10 to Bristol City 2s but it didn’t matter because everyone looked so good as they played with goals all round, and well deserved MVPs went to Natalie Grundmann and Jamie Luxford. Congratulations!
